The eCAN Plus at the “Understanding cancer in the digital age: data, innovation and equity” Event 2026

The eHealth Laboratory actively participated in two major Events, held in Cyprus, under the EU Cyprus Presidency, on April 27th 2026.

There, the team presented the work carried out within eCAN Plus, on strengthening Digital Cancer Research Capacity and contributing to the European Health Data Space.

An interesting talk was delivered by Dr Efthyvoulos Kyriacou, leader of Work Package 8 – Capacity Building for Effective Telemonitoring and Patient Follow-up, of the project, responsible for the technical infrastructure. There, the framework aims to provide real-time monitoring and personalised care by utilizing mobile applications and wearable technologies, all while adhering to data privacy and cybersecurity regulations.

Dr Kyriacou participated also in Panel 4 – Building Cancer Research Capacity, introducing eCAN Plus JA and discussing topics that the project seeks to resolve, such as data fragmentation and interoperability, the need to advance the clinicians’ digitals skills and the adoption of digital tools by healthcare professionals, as well as the AI readiness, all under the prism of the scale that concerns each EU Member State, depending on the access to resources and the amount of data available; Cyprus is a small island that could benefit from further collaborations with partners from across Europe and its participation in this project.
