This study has shed light on the true numbers and the periodicity of the demand for ambulances in Cyprus, coded based on priority and other factors, and reflected the impact on the Emergency Medical Services and emergency departments.
Temporal patterns of ambulance demand, such as seasonal, weekly, and hourly variations were presented and analyzed.
The study concluded that the demands follow temporal patterns on a daily, weekly, and seasonal basis, depending on a variety of factors (social behavior, traffic conditions, daily routines and/or biological rhythms).
The results might help design new response plans for emergency services, to improve their preparedness and achieve a more efficient use of resources.
